Activities
We’re currently rounding up some great activities and workshops for MOMcation 2011. Here are some of the possibilites: (Moms who register early will get to help choose our activities!)
Welcome Party – After dinner on Friday night, join us for a Lounge Party! (Lounge-wear suggested) We’ll spend some time getting to know each other: including who is musically inclined and who isn’t, as we break out the Karaoke machine!
Hayride Tour – On Saturday, Heifer Ranch will provide us with a tour! This is your chance to see the nooks and crannies of the ranch (including water buffalo, camels, llamas, and other animal friends) and learn more about Heifer Ranch and Heifer International.
Geocaching – Want to learn about a high-tech, global treasure hunt that you can take part in with your family? Join in on this exciting workshop where we’ll learn a bit about messages from space, get a little (walking) exercise, and sharpen our treasure-seeking skills. Learn more about Geocaching.
Book Discussion – Hit the library or bookstore and pick up a copy of Free-Range Kids: Giving Our Children the Freedom We Had Without Going Nuts with Worry, by Lenore Skenazy. Read it before you get to MOMcation, and join in on the discussion. Lenore Skenazy has been dubbed “America’s Worst Mom” for letting her 9 year old ride the subway alone in NYC: she didn’t realize the controversy it would cause! Our discussion will center around our concerns as moms (do we worry too much?), and something I like to call “Mommy Guilt”. For questions about the book discussion, email nicole@momcation.org.
Saturday Night by the Fire – Saturday night after dinner we will head over to the fire ring to enjoy a campfire and smores. Then, we’ll all show off our mad gaming skills as we break out the cards, dice, and board games for a night of silly fun reminiscent of our long-gone summer camp days.
Sunday BONUS activity – After we check out at Heifer Ranch, we’ll caravan over (about 30 minutes drive) to Petit Jean State Park for lunch (cost of lunch not included in your registration fee) and a hike on the Cedar trail, which ends at Cedar falls. A beautiful hike and a beautiful park to explore with new friends!
Some ideas we’re still working on include activities such as trail runs, yoga, greening your home, a cooking workshop, a wine tasting, how to start a blog, paint your own pottery, and More!)
If you have any ideas for activities or workshops, please send them to fawn@momcation.org.
Swaps and Take-Aways
In addition to the fun activities we’ll be doing at MOMcation, we’ve also got some ideas for sharing some goodies with each other. Participation is optional, of course!
Magazine Swap – Have some back-issues of your favorite magazines laying around? Bring them with you and trade them in for something new (or new to you, anyway). Any unclaimed magazines will be recycled.
Coupon Bin – If you’re a couponer, bring your unwanted coupons for the coupon bin. Leave some, take some, and share your love for saving some dough!
Book Exchange – For Jane Austin adorers and chick-lit lovers alike. Bring a book or two that you’re ready to part with and go home with a new bound friend.
Clothing Swap – We’ll have separate bins for women’s clothing, women’s accessories, boys clothing, and girls clothing. We’ll use the honor system to make sure everyone gives and gets fairly.
